Can You Really Make Money With EBooks in a Recession?

Two days ago I was having lunch with a long time friend of mine. He sells insurance and was talking to me about all the people he knows who are having a hard time during this recession we're supposed to all be suffering from. So I listened. We were having lunch in a nice little restaurant inside a large mall. We were seated by a window where you could look out and see people walking by and shopping. When my friend paused for a moment from all his talk of doom and gloom, I made an observation. I said, look at all the people who are here. Do you know what they're doing, I asked my friend. He replied, shopping. I said, that's right. They're doing what we all do -- spending money.

My point is this. We all know we're in a recession. But for the most part, we're all still spending money. And if you operate a profitable eBook publishing company, you'd see that your sales have actually increased. That's right, sales for many of the eBook titles that I publish have increased. The same is true for three other highly successful individuals who I interact with on a professional level. Why? My guess is that more people like the idea of being able to buy something that's useful to them from the comfort of home. Not to mention, there are no shipping or printing costs. It's a significantly cleaner transaction for the publisher as well as for the customer. So yes, you really can make money during a recession if you're selling the type of product that people are interested in buying.
